1. Purpose

This procedure defines the approval and appropriate use of Local College Closing (LCC) leave.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all regular full-time and regular part-time employees.

3. Procedure

  1. The local College President may approve a limited temporary closure of their college for reasons other than an emergency closing or an institutional closing. The local closing could be a full or partial day.

The Local College Closing (LCC) code is an available option for use on an employee timesheet when an individual college or campus location closure has been approved by the local College President.

Reasons for use of the local closing code may include, but is not limited to, the following:
    1. at the end of a meeting day when it is not feasible for employees to return to their normal workstations, or
    2. an early closing prior to a holiday, or
    3. as an academic break, or
    4. when events external to the college make it appropriate to close a location.

  2. As directed by the local College President, all regular exempt and non-exempt employees will enter the appropriate number of hours using the LCC code. Hourly employees will enter it on their weekly timesheet. Exempt employees will enter it as an absence request.

  3. Employees who are on a previously approved leave status (sick or vacation leave, for example) during a local closure will be eligible for LCC leave.

  4. LCC shall not reduce time recorded as Family Medical Leave (FML).

  5. Presidents are encouraged to announce local closings with advanced notice so temporary and student employee work schedules can be adjusted accordingly.
